Well, we have had some wonderful folks donate some money to FeyRealm! I'd like to put that money towards a contest prize, and I will add in 25 dollars of my own towards some sort of prize - gift certificates are usually the easiest way for me to get prizes to someone.

So ideas! I need them! The last contest I did, the banner contest, was a complete failure LOL, as sadly, NO one entered a submission - and THAT was a 25 dollar prize in case there was an artist AND a sculptor submitting an entry, which would have been a 50 dollar prize had only one person entered.

So either a 25-50 dollar prize wasn't enough for someone to be interested to submit an entry in - or doing banners wasn't interesting enough for folks to bother, LOL.

So I ask you all, what kinds of contests are YOU interested in doing? Is anyone creative and interestd in being a Contest Director - someone that helps me out by being in charge of monthly contests, thinking them up and announcing them? We can do a poll for picking the winner, and if no one votes - (and only members would be able to vote - just so there can't be any cheating) - then it can fall to the judges, me and the contest director and any other helpers or staff of FeyRealm.

So ideas here would be welcome, and I'd love to hear them!

Perhaps we could think of a theme for everyone to paint/sculpt about and then have a showing of the results, and then a vote and then the winner of the vote gets the prize!
Yeah, the banner one was hard I think perhaps because for me, I didn't have any sculptures to take pictures of---and I somehow thought the banner should incorporate both paintings and sculptures. And then I thought, if I put paintings in it, it would only have my paintings because those are the only ones I have copyrights to. I had trouble thinking outside the box for that one, heh heh.
But maybe a more individual contest might work better, eh?

That sounds good! What kind of theme shall we focus on? Any ideas out there people?

How do you donate money here? I didnt see a donate button? Or maybe I am just loseing my eyesite from wearing thoes magnifying glasses. Instead of botox injections I need brain cell injections.

The donate block in on the front page on the lower right hand side. I figured it would be a great way to help generate good prizes, a dollar from several members would make a greater pot prize than just what I could do alone.

Art supplies, as we ALL know are expensive, so I thought gift certificates to art stores of the winner's choice would be a nice thing, or maybe just the cash proze sometimes, or something along those lines - something fun to win and then get to play with! LOL.

Um its autumn in australia and we are doing a mermaid contest at ODA arent we . Maybe we could widen it a little and make it an ocean theme. Or water theme. That covers a lot more.

I love the idea of a contest though and a showing. I'd definitely join in sounds like tonnes of fun. Then i could do some painting. Oooh i don't think ive painted since i found sculpting.

Wow - it's Autumn in Australia? Yeah ODA *did* just have a mermaid contest so it sort of seems too soon to hold another mermaid contest.

I really LIKE that water/ocean theme! It really does open the doors a bit wider! And lets folks have a larger frame to work in!

I'm game for that if everyone else likes it too!

So how about entries too. Can we have as many as we want. Just in saying that i think a few of us paint and sculpt. I'd like to do a sculpture and a painting. Doing this sort of thing actually gives me a kick up the bum hehe.... I tend to procrastinate over my work and get nothing done.

I see no reason why you couldn't put an entry in for both the artist and sculptor sides of things!

After all, one never knows what kinds of entries we'll get or even how many folks will be interested enough to submit an entry!

Eh, sites take time to develop and become established. The fact that it is focused on fairy/fantasy works in it's favor in some senses and against it in others while it's growing.

In time it will work more in it's favor. It takes approximately 3 years for a site to establish itself in most cases, so it's normal for things to be a bit slow. Plus I didn't have friends or folks that I could enlist to help me out LOL.

It gets good traffic though for the most part - and as we all add things in like links and tuts and talk on the forums, and promote our work, people will start taking notice. We have a few regulars and a few irregular regulars LOL, and they are ALL very nice and warm and positive and encouraging people, which is really great, I think.

Contests help spark interest, interaction, and creativity in members and non-members alike. I personally love seeing the imagination in everyone taking flight.

thing is, I am good at SOME things, and I totally suck at others. Like I SUCK at generating conversations. I can help keep one going, but I'm not so great at starting them. I also don't seem to be good at brainstorming some things, like polls and contests and things for members to get involved in. I'm good at creating sites and maintaining them and developing them, but a community is always best run by more than one person so that everyone's strengths and weaknesses balance out.

Hopefully at some point someone will be sparked and interested in maybe taking on some aspect/area here that I royally suck at - which will make the site that much better!

This was over with by the time I found the site or I would have probably tossed an entry in.

I basically have just lurked around the site but I've enjoyed it.

Hey maybe a "Party Girl " fairy, mermaid etc. as outragioues as possible !
